The Memorandum for the creation of Ok1ura state from the present Kogi state has been submitted to the group A committee of North Central public hearing on constitutional amendment.
The Memorandum submitted at the public hearing in Minna , by Dr Yakubu Ugwalawo was premised on the long time agitation for creation of the state since the second republic .
Dr Ugwalawo in a well articulated presentation, enunciated the reasons for the creation of the state to the historical facts that some Native authorities of the same status as old Igala Native authority have been granted state status.
He said that the proposed state is made up of 9 local government areas that constitute the present Kogi East senatorial Distinct.
According to him , if the state is created there would be the need to sustain additional 16 local government created earlier by the Kogi state government by way of consequential adjustment.
He said the new Okura state if created would be economically viable recalling that the Igala Native authority was second most viable Native authority in the old Northern Nigeria.
Dr Yakubu Ugwalawo said before the botched second republic referendum was conducted for the creation of the state but for military intervention, the exercise would have been successful.
He thanked the Governor of Kogi state Alhaji Usman Ododo and sought for his support for the success of the exercise so that history will be made under him .
