Former President Goodluck Jonathan has given reasons why all former Nigeria Leaders were silence over the state of emergency in River State.
He spoke at Haske Satumari Foundation’s colloquium at the weekend in Abuja that they refused to speak because they did not want to escalate the situation.
The former Nigeria Leader said what was happening in River state and the country was akin to a proverb that ” it is easier to wake the person sleeping and difficult to wake the person that is pretending to be sleeping “.
He decried outright abuse Of office, power and privileges in the executive, Legislative and judicial arms of government.
Jonathan said often times people wondered why Nigeria passport was not respected globally, saying it was due to the kind of leadership provided in the country not the activities of ‘Yahoo Yahoo boys’ (internet fraudsters) as often identified as the cause.
He said no reasonable investor will invest in a country where government officials influence the decision of the judiciary.
According to him, no matter how painful , the right decision for the progress of the country must be taken for the sake of ” children and grandchildren”.
He enunciated the need for sustainable social change that would bring about development and progress while insisting that he leaders must do the right thing for the future of the country.
