A total of 248 people were killed in 253 road crashes in the first three quarters of this year in Niger state .
The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Niger state Command Rs7.2 Aisha Saadu disclosed this at a Press Briefing to usher in Ember Months public enlightenment and sensitisation campaign.
She said in the 253 crashes 2, 522 people were involved with 1772 of them injured as against 1,831 last year .
She also disclosed that the number of deaths recorded in the first three quarters this was 191 less than the number of the people who died through road crashes same time last year
Corps Commander Saadu said comparatively there was reduction of crashes by 166 and number of victims less by 1438 as against the number recorded last year.
She recalled that during the 2024 operation zero between December and January 15th 2025, 46 people were killed, 205 injured and 433 involved in the 47 crashes recorded.
The Sector Commander said that the statistics showed that there was reduction in road crashes in the state in the first three quarters of this compared to same time last year .
She identified the causes of road crashes thus “the records showed the major causes of those crashes were excessive speeding , mix loading/overloading of persons , goods and animals, route violation and wrongful overtaking”.
Commander Saadu noted that drivers behaviours were fundamental in determining safety on the highways hence the choice of the 2025 campaign is” take responsibility for your safety”.
